Date : 12 May 2011
Venue : Eaton Hotel

The Annual Scientific Meeting 2011 was successfully held at Eaton Hotel on 12th May 2011. The theme was “New Horizons in Pain Management in China and Hong Kong”. We were honoured to have Prof Gabriel Leung (Under Secretary for Food and Health, HKSAR), Prof Catherine Bushnell (Treasurer, IASP) and Prof You Wan (President, CASP) to join us in commemorating HKPS in becoming a local chapter of the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP). The event kicked start with a simple ceremonial event on HKPS’s important mission in promoting better pain management through training, research, collaboration, advocacy and public education. This was followed by three lectures. Prof You Wan (President, CASP) updated the audience on the development of pain medicine in China while Dr Steven Wong (Vice President, HKPS) gave us a summary on the development of pain management in Hong Kong. With ever-mounting evidences in pain medicine, A/Prof P Macintyre, (Editor, Acute Pain Management: Scientific Evidence, 3rd Edition) taught us how to effectively make use of currently available evidence in acute pain management to apply to our daily practice. The event attracted about 100 local and overseas participants and was well-received by the audience.
